The International Journal of Law, Ethics, and Technology (IJLET) is a peer-reviewed interdisciplinary journal on the legal and ethical governance of technological and social change. Its central concern is how legal institutions allocate rights and responsibilities, justify public and private power, and respond to emerging forms of harm and inequality. The journal connects research on technology with the comparative, historical, and philosophical study of law to develop arguments about justice, institutional design, and accountability.
Aims and scope
- Law and technology: the regulation and use of artificial intelligence, data, digital platforms, intellectual property, cybersecurity, and biotechnology, including their effects on legal practice and public administration.
- Rights and institutional responsibility: legal and ethical responses to inequality, barriers to justice, corporate conduct, and changes in public governance, health, and care.
- Foundations of legal and ethical governance: comparative, historical, and philosophical research explaining the development, justification, or reform of legal institutions and practices.
IJLET welcomes doctrinal, normative, comparative, historical, and empirical scholarship. Every research contribution must pose a clear question, engage relevant scholarship and primary sources, explain its analytical approach or methods, and develop a sustained argument within the journal’s central concern. A topic’s connection to law or technology alone is insufficient: authors should explain what their analysis contributes to understanding rights, responsibility, institutional design, or accountability. Historical and jurisdiction-specific studies are welcome when they establish that contribution; they need not address a particular technology. The journal serves researchers, legal professionals, and policymakers working across law, ethics, and technology.
Peer review
Research articles, review articles, and substantive scholarly essays and notes are subject to double-anonymous external peer review.
